TransTech Expands to Wilmington, NC with New CDL Training Center

TransTech, North Carolina’s leader in commercial truck driver training, is excited to announce the opening of a brand-new CDL Training Center in Wilmington, NC. This expansion marks another step forward in TransTech’s mission to prepare the next generation of professional truck drivers while strengthening the state’s transportation workforce.

Meeting the Growing Demand for Truck Drivers

North Carolina’s trucking industry continues to play a vital role in keeping goods moving across the Southeast. With more than 200,000 professional drivers already employed statewide, and thousands more needed in the coming years, TransTech is stepping up to meet the demand. By opening its latest campus in the Cape Fear region, the company is ensuring that coastal communities have direct access to the same industry-leading training available in other parts of the state.

A Local Commitment in Wilmington, NC

The Wilmington truck driver training center, located at 1932 Castle Hayne Rd, will serve students from across the region with both Class A and Class B CDL programs. Enrollment is now open, with new classes starting each week. Beyond providing hands-on driver training, the facility will also create local jobs, hiring experienced instructors and support staff from the Wilmington area.

Leaders Share Their Vision

“For us, this is more than just a new training center, it’s about building opportunity,” said Bob Boniface, Co-CEO and CFO of TransTech. “Every graduate who earns their CDL is stepping into a career that fuels our economy and keeps communities connected. Wilmington gives us the chance to expand that impact on the coast.”

Tyrel Sulzer, Co-CEO and COO of TransTech, emphasized the broader need: “The transportation industry continues to grow, and with it comes an urgent demand for safe, skilled drivers. By adding Wilmington to our network, we’re able to reach even more students who want to start a stable and rewarding career in trucking.”

TransTech is Building a Statewide Training Network

With Wilmington now open, TransTech operates a growing network of training centers across the Southeast. In addition to the new location, students can find CDL programs in Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Gastonia, Greensboro, Greenville, Newton, Raleigh-Durham, and Winston-Salem, along with campuses in Columbia, SC and Atlanta, GA.

A Pathway to the Future

The Wilmington CDL Training Center is expected to train hundreds of new drivers annually, each ready to fill critical roles in North Carolina’s supply chain. For students, it’s not just about learning to drive a truck; it’s about starting a career that offers long-term stability, competitive pay, and the chance to be part of one of the state’s largest industries.

The changing demographics of the trucking industry

As an older generation of truck drivers begins to retire, a younger and more diverse group of new drivers is replacing them. TransTech continues to see increasing annual enrollment from women and younger drivers who are opting for a skilled trade, verse traditional education. Compared to the cost of college or community college, earning a Class A or Class B CDL offers a tremendous return for the cost of the education (ROI).

Enrollment is now underway. Interested students are encouraged to contact TransTech directly to learn more about upcoming class dates, job placement assistance and the local, regional and national trucking companies that are actively recruiting students.
