Trucking Demand in the Newton and Hickory Area
Catawba County has one of the highest concentrations of manufacturing in North Carolina, with over 400 manufacturers accounting for nearly a third of the local workforce. That industrial density means a steady flow of freight moving in and out of the region every day. US-70 and I-40 run through the area and provide direct routes west toward Asheville and east toward Charlotte, connecting Newton-based drivers to freight networks across the state. The region supports active demand across furniture, fiber, and construction materials hauling, along with local and regional distribution tied to the Hickory metro.

After my position being dissolved came to trans tech for a change. The instructors were great, informative and knowledgeable. Jesse and Philip were my driving instructors and between them both there is an abundance of knowledge. Thanks!
I came here for work. I needed my class B CDL. First timer here. All the staff is so knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging. They definitely make you feel at home! If I ever needed additional training I would come back to this specific location.
10/10 recommend the guys and ladies at trans tech are super helpful , philip and rick were my instructor and they both have different teaching styles but both know what there talking and are very helpful
Instructors are very knowledgeable, and willing to help you where you struggle!
Philip and Adam were my instructors and they made the learning/practice feel enjoyable, not like a chore/school.
Thank you!
Excellent instructors and good drive time! Philip, Richard and Adam went above and beyond to ensure I passed and answered every question I had until I figured out the right way to maneuver the backing part!
A lot of information in a short time. Mostly the instructors are on the same page but have very different ways of communicating it to you (the student). All in all time was well spent and can receive extra training if need be.
Instructors were great, school was very kind and helpful. The trucks and yard could be more maintained and safer. School doesnt like to pay to fix things. Adam, Mark, Richard, and Pork Chop were all great.
I had a good experience overall. I had 3 different instructors throughout my stay and I actually thought they all had good coaching skills in their own ways. So thank you to Phillip, Adam and Richard. If you do what these instructors say you should pass with flying colors so just listen to them and you'll be driving in no time.
I had a great experience at this CDL school. The training was thorough, hands on, and really prepared me for both the test and real
world driving. All of the instructors were knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cared about helping students succeed. They took the time to make sure everyone understood everything and felt confident behind the wheel.
Overall, I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to get their CDL. It was a great investment in my future.
Great experience. Instructors were all knowledgeable and gave great advice. The yard was a mess when it rained that’s really the only part that I suggest that would need fixed
My experience with TransTech Newton location was really good...great instructor that took the time to make sure we understood what's needed to pass to obtain our class B license.
